What’s It About?

YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN’T HIDE!
MOTHER SUPERIOR IS COMING TO TOWN IN THE COMEDY:
SAINTS & SINNERS

elaine_whats-flThere’s a new nun in town and Vicki Quade, creator of the hit show Late Nite Catechism, introduces us to Mother Superior in her new show, Saints & Sinners. Mother Superior’s ruler is quick, her aim is spot-on, and she wants to know who in the audience is a saint and who are the sinners! Quade calls the show “a funny look at fundraising. Mother Superior is called by the archdiocese to Our Lady of Good Fortune parish to help in their fundraising. The economy is tough, donations are down, and someone has to save the parish! Her clever idea: a calendar of famous saints and famous sinners.

So tonight we’re going to chose which saints and which sinners should go on the calendar. St. Valentine looks good, Judas is out. And, of course, being a nun, Mother Superior has lots of opinions about the list and Catholicism in general. An interactive experience, the audience not only gets to vote — there are prizes for those who can answer Mother Superior’s trivia questions. And, as with all of the “nun” comedies, there’s a question and answer segment where the audience can ask Mother Superior about anything! Just be sure you WANT to get her attention!!

“As the creator of Late Nite Catechism, Vicki Quade knows a thing or two about what makes a one-person show successful,” says Pioneer Press, Chicago.

“If you’re familiar with Quade’s funny stage style, you probably realize her angry (yet good-hearted and humorous) nuns share their opinions with laughing audiences whether they want to hear them or not,” says Phil Potempa, of The Times of Northwest Indiana.

In 1993, Vicki Quade brought to life an idea for a one woman show that would become the hit comedy, Late Nite Catechism, which has been running in Chicago since 1993 and turned into a national and international hit, with productions in more than 150 cities. The character is simply known as “Sister.”

In 2005, Quade created the comedy, Put the Nuns in Charge! and in 2007 her third “nun” show opened, Sunday School Cinema. Both of those shows are still running in Chicago and have done tours nationwide.

“Schools and parishes throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin have enjoyed my shows as an easy way of raising much-needed money to balance their budgets, which gave me the idea for Saints & Sinners,” says Quade. In addition, each of her shows is also used to raise much needed retirement funds for orders of nuns throughout the country. Through her comedies, Quade has helped raise more than $2 million in donations to various orders of nuns nationwide,” she notes.

For her work raising awareness of the plight of retired Sisters, Vicki Quade received the Spirit of Benedict Award in 2003 from the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago, and, in 2005, was given a Partners in Mission Award by the Sisters of the Living Word in Arlington Heights, IL. She was honored in 2009 by the Sisters of Providence in Indiana for donations to that order.
